First Day in Athens – An Adventure!
March 31, 2012

The Odyssey Group In Front of Mars Hill
We are all grateful to be here amidst all this history and culture! After a brief lunch and rest at one of the finest hotels in Athens, we set out for a walking tour of the historic area surrounding the Acropolis. Our guide, Doula, gave us a great tour, explaining everything. When we got to Mars Hill, we read from Acts 17 and Paul’s famous sermon to the Areopagus explaining the unknown God, and then set out to explore. From the top of Mars Hill there is a great view of Athens, as well as the Acropolis. Unfortunately, there are pickpockets prowling everywhere (and not a policeman in sight). One of our group set down her purse to take pictures, and seconds later it was gone (don’t worry, it wasn’t your son or daughter)! While this is disheartening, and a major hassle, we plan to press on as Paul would have done amidst trial (see 2 Cor 11:23-29).
Capping off the day we had the best Greek meal ever at a sidewalk cafe/restaurant before heading back to the hotel for the night (Oh, and a brief stop to file a police report!).
We appreciate your prayers for us, and will give you another update after our busy day tomorrow.
